FotoTepat documentation

Everything you need to prepare a 3x4 photo: choosing a source, adjusting the crop, and downloading the right result.

Back to the tool

Start with your photo

Choose one JPG, PNG, or WebP photo up to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. A sharp original with some space around the face works best.

On a computer, you can also drop a photo onto the tool or paste an image from your clipboard. Replacing a photo does not delete the original from your device.

Position without stretching

Your photo is cropped to a 3:4 frame. Areas outside the frame are excluded; the face is not stretched.

Drag directly on the preview, or use the horizontal and vertical position controls. Zoom for a closer crop. Rotate 90° if the source orientation needs adjusting.

  • Reset crop restores the original rotation, zoom, and position.
  • Arrow keys move the photo when the preview is focused. Shift + arrow moves further.
  • Remove photo clears the tool. The original file stays on your device.

Understand the output

The output is always a 354 × 472 pixel JPG with 300 DPI metadata. This is approximately 3 × 4 cm in print because pixel counts must be rounded.

Explicitly choose 3 × 4 cm when printing. Some print applications or services ignore DPI metadata.

JPG does not support transparency. Transparent PNG or WebP areas are filled white. This tool does not remove or replace backgrounds.

Fit a file size limit

The KB limit is optional. Leave it empty for a high-quality JPG. Select 100, 200, or 500 KB, or enter a limit between 10 and 10,000 KB.

FotoTepat uses decimal KB (1 KB = 1,000 bytes). A 100 KB limit therefore means a result of at most 100,000 bytes, a conservative interpretation for online application forms.

FotoTepat searches for the highest JPG quality it can find below the limit. Pixel dimensions stay the same. If the limit cannot be met, it does not download an oversized file.

Inspect the result before submitting it. Strong compression can reduce visible detail.

Check the receiving requirements

Every application may specify different pixel dimensions, file size, background, pose, or clothing. FotoTepat does not guarantee acceptance by any institution.

Use a larger original if you see a low-resolution warning. Enlarging a crop cannot add detail.

Photos stay on your device

Processing happens in your browser. Photos are not sent to a server or given a public link. Reloading or closing the page clears the session; downloaded files stay on your device.
